We deliberately made the new Dwarven units more colorful and more extreme in shape as part of this effort. Matt Britton - Art Direction We realized early on that we wanted the Dwarves to visually read much better at game view than Gimli had in the original The Battle for Middle-earth game. Additionally, the Dwarves can construct the toughest walls and base defenses in the game, making them the ultimate turtle side. Their Battlewagon slices through enemy hordes with aplomb, the Iron Hills catapult fires two structure annihilating projectiles per shot, and the Demolisher is the ultimate fortress killing machine. In addition to their tough-as-Mithril infantry, the Dwarves have access to several unique war machines. Although painfully slow, Dwarven units can absorb massive amounts of damage and forcefully return it to their opponents.
Greg Black - Developer Strategies The Dwarves are the tank faction in Battle for Middle-earth II. As Gimli and Legolas form a strong friendship, it becomes plain to the inhabitants of Middle-earth that, while Dwarven trust is not easily gained, it is as valuable and lasting as a coat of Mithril mail. Although the Dwarves are secretive and standoffish, they have nonetheless formed a bond with the Men of Dale, a settlement outside of the gates of Erebor. Throughout the ages, the Dwarves have clashed with the Elves, but the two races have never considered themselves enemies. Their underground halls, among the oldest structures in all of Middle-earth, include places like The Mines of Moria and The Mountain Halls of Erebor. They are known for their ability to craft from stone and metal, most notably the precious metal Mithril.

They'll play a big role in Battle for Middle-earth II (when they're not busy trading friendly blows at the pub). We're not kidding about their love for glorious battle, either. And in the world of Middle-earth, they reign under the mountains, mining and smelting away as far down as they can go - even if it means awaking a Balrog. They like ale, they like fighting with axes, and they love a good joke or two. Say what you want about the Dwarves, but they're all right in our book.
